Topic: Absolute Surrender (Qualification As Jesus' Disciple)
Scriptures: Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23
“Take up your cross and follow Me”
Points: Clarificatory Interpretation of the cross based on these texts:
a. The “cross” is NOT some burden they must carry in their lives: a strained relationship, a thankless job, a physical illness.
b. “Take up your cross and follow Me” means being willing to die in order to follow Jesus. This is called “dying to self.” It’s a call to absolute surrender.
c. For Christians, the cross is a cherished symbol of atonement, forgiveness, grace, and love.
Action Point (For Personal Assessment and Obedience): What are those you need to surrender/die to self in order to follow Jesus? What "Isaacs" do you need to place before the altar of God?
